Skibbereen Arts Festival 2015

If you are looking for things to do in West Cork this Summer, the Skibbereen Arts Festival is set to take place from the 24th July until the 2nd August.

The Abbeystrewry Church in Skibbereen is set to become home to many concerts during the festival  including a rare Irish appearance by Scottish musicians and troubadours James Yorkston and Alasdair Roberts. Other acts set to make an appearance during the festival are the “Canon Goodman Concert” which is hosted by folk legends Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny. A unique reprisal of “The Bird Song Project” by Liz Clark and the very special tribute to song collector Alan Lomax and much much more are set to perform during the festival.

The popular “4 Plays in a Day” is also set to return with productions including Donal O’Kelly’s “Catalpa” as well as an exceptional play about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, “Bassam”.

An amazing array of visual art exhibitions are also happening throughout the town with over 50 works on display. Works on display include “Umha Aois” which is an international archaeology and sculpture symposium producing bronze sculptures in Liss Ard Estate.  The ethos of the festival is “inclusion and accessibility”- everything is reasonably priced with many free events to take part in.

The festival opens with an event to mark the centenary of the death of Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa.
